Ripple Effect: Community Partnerships Inc. Smoothes Path to Inclusion
Nine-year-old Braxton and many other children benefit from Healthy Out of School Time (HOST), a project run by Community Partnerships Inc., which teaches others how to provide quality, recreational time for kids with special needs. [more]

Project Access Support Renewed
The Endowment has extended its support of Project Access for Children, run by the Wake County Medical Society Community Health Foundation. The project will receive $90,335 over two years to provide free diagnostic and specialty care to uninsured children whose family income falls below 185 percent of the federal poverty level.

Endowment Welcomes New Staff
We are pleased to announce two new members of the John Rex Endowment team. Kate Shirah has been hired as program director, and Mary Stevenson is our new staff accountant. [more]

Featured Resource: The National Children's Study
The National Children's Study will examine the effects of environmental influences on children's health and development by following more than 100,000 children from across the United States from before birth until age 21. [more]

N&O Covers Innovative Character-Building Track Club
Girls on the Run Triangle, a character development program and running club the Endowment supports, was featured recently in the News & Observer.

New Trail Opens in Apex at Middle Creek Elementary
First Phase of Three-Year Grant from John Rex Endowment
Kids, parents, teachers and members of the community can now get moving on the new trail at Middle Creek Elementary. A three-year $30,000 grant from the John Rex Endowment provided resources to build the trail and develop a unique walking program at the school, which will begin in early August 2008. [more]

Request for Proposal: Nutrition
As the John Rex Endowment continues to support a Healthy Weight Initiative for children, we will be announcing an RFP in July for programs and projects aimed at improving nutrition.  The announcement will be made July 7 and letters of interest will be due July 24.
